We are a family-run, yarn, crochet, knitting and haberdashery shop in Essex with something for everyone.
We stock a range of suppliers including Stylecraft Yarns, Rico, King Cole, Sirdar, James C Brett, Emma Ball, Corinne Lapierre, DMC and much more! If you are looking for anything specific, please feel free to contact us before visiting.
Come along and join our friendly classes to learn to Knit or Crochet.
We have a regular weekly timetable, however we can also provide one- off group tuition, or even tailored one-to-one support by special arrangement. We cater for all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced techniques.

Hi! I’m Sandie, the owner of Bodkins. Crochet, knitting and embroidery are long term hobbies of mine, and I was a teacher for some years too – this combination makes running a little yarn shop the perfect business for me! I consider myself an expert at crochet and thoroughly enjoy teaching this skill to complete newbies and helping those more accomplished crocheters to move up a level. I do need to make a confession – I cannot stop buying new yarn! Miraculously, I always find a suitable space on a shelf somewhere for new stock.

I am a knitting and crochet fanatic, working one day a week in Bodkins. This satisfies my appetite for all things yarny!

Sandie and I have been friends for ever, but I only learnt to crochet in more recent years. You will find me in the shop a couple of days a week, including most busy Saturdays, when Sandie and I get to work together. I love to create our much - praised window displays at Bodkins and I am the queen of crocheting round and round. The Amigurumi Expert!
